Malaysia is promoting the digitization of the aviation sector (CAAM)
By putting the Digitalization Strategic Plan (DSP) 2024-2028 into action, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) is solidifying its standing as an active regulator in the civil aviation sector.
CEO Norazman Mahmud claims that DSP is being deployed in stages with the goal of utilizing digital transformation to increase air travel’s sustainability, efficiency, and safety. It is anticipated that digital transformation will optimize air traffic control, boost customer satisfaction, and improve airport operations.
According to Norazman, the first phase of CAAM’s digitalization plan concentrates on basic enhancements, setting the stage for the second phase, which will digitize important procedures like establishing a digital aviation personnel licensing system, expediting license issuance and renewal, and bolstering safety oversight. In the meantime, the third phase will expand on these developments by putting more intricate projects into action to fortify the aviation ecosystem even further.
The creation of an e-licensing system, a cutting-edge online platform intended to help aviation staff and CAAM license holders manage and submit digital license applications, increasing efficiency and cutting down on processing times, is one of the main goals, he said. Later this month is when the system is anticipated to launch.
Furthermore, according to Norazman, CAAM is striving to create a comprehensive data warehouse by 2027 in order to improve its capacity for risk prediction and safety monitoring.
All data pertaining to aviation safety will be linked by 2028, allowing for proactive monitoring of aviation safety, boosting transparency, and drastically cutting down on the amount of time needed to look into aircraft occurrences.
According to Norazman, CAAM will implement a remote digital virtual tower to further improve operational efficiency and safety. The company plans to use digital technology to improve air traffic management, particularly at regional airports. These digitalization initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to advancing the Malaysian aviation sector by guaranteeing more effective, transparent, and industry-responsive management processes.
