Vietjet is about to fly to Con Dao via Comac ARJ2 ship
Vietjet Air intends to fly from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao with Comac ARJ21 aircraft this month. In a document issued to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), Vietjet Air said it aims to operate flights to Con Son Airport (VCS) in Con Dao starting April using Comac ARJ21 aircraft.
The airline intends to operate its first flights on April 15, with round-trip services from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao. Based on this, Vietjet has requested that ACV deploy servicing work and establish conditions for the two parties to execute a ground service contract for the Comac ARJ21 aircraft.
On April 11, ACV authorities stated that they had accepted Vietjet’s request and approved the airline’s plans to establish a flight route to Con Dao. According to him, Vietjet would make it easier for passengers to travel from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao, especially during holidays and peak seasons.
“ACV is carrying out the necessary procedures and waiting for Vietjet to provide more information related to the new aircraft to add to the approval dossier,” according to an ACV spokesman. At the same time, he underlined that ACV is ready and that safety problems are being implemented extremely carefully.
However, when asked about the prospect of Vietjet’s maiden trip to Con Dao beginning on April 15, ACV executives claimed it was “difficult to do” because several procedures still needed to be completed. According to VnExpress, as of April 11, Vietjet had not activated ticket sales for the Hanoi/HCMC – Con Dao routes on the system.
With millionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao’s airline joining the Con Dao route, travelers will have additional options, saving both time and money. Because Bamboo Airways has withdrawn from this particular route, customers going from the North to Con Dao must transfer to Tan Son Nhat or Can Tho airports before continuing their journey by Vietnam Airlines or Vasco’s ATR72.
Comac plans to deliver the first ARJ21 to an international customer in Indonesia in 2022. By the end of last year, the aircraft had logged 194,000 flight hours and over 135,000 takeoffs and landings. Comac’s regional jet has a range of 2,225–3,700 kilometers. It can be customized with 78 to 97 seats. This aircraft is comparable in size to aircraft that have previously operated and continue to operate at Con Dao Airport, such as the ATR-72 and Embraer E190.
