Vietnam Airlines will boost the frequency and routes to Japan
Vietnam Airlines will expand flight frequency and establish new routes to Japan starting next year to fulfill rising demand.
On the morning of December 6, Vietnam Airlines CEO Le Hong Ha presented this information at the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-Japan flight route, which was attended by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
Vietnam Airlines began flying to Japan in 1994, with a route from Ho Chi Minh City to Osaka. To date, the airline’s network of flights connecting Vietnam and Japan has grown to 10, with an average of over 122 flights each week from Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka.
After 30 years, Vietnam Airlines has flown 100,000 flights between the two nations, carrying nearly 16 million passengers. The Northeast Asian market, particularly Japan, remains one of the most important overseas markets for Vietnamese aviation, with annual growth of 20%.
According to Mr. Le Hong Ha, the airline plans to expand flight frequency, explore new routes, and improve service quality on the Vietnam-Japan route. Vietnam Airlines intends to resume operations on the Da Nang-Osaka route with four flights per week beginning in July 2025. At the same time, the firm plans to enhance the number of flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Fukuoka, as well as bring wide-body aircraft to the Hanoi-Nagoya route.
Aside from expanding regular services, the airline intends to operate more charter flights between the two markets. Vietnam Airlines signed a cooperation deal with the provinces of Hokkaido, Aichi, and Nagoya during the ceremony.
Nguyen Xuan Sang, Deputy Minister of Transport, stated that aviation plays an important role in the ongoing development of Vietnam-Japan relations. According to him, Vietnam Airlines needs to expand flight frequency, modernize aircraft, and create new routes to suit the needs of the two countries’ people and enterprises.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Thanh Man urged that the Party continue to encourage practical cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the areas of economics, commerce, investment, and new generation ODA. He expressed his hope that Japanese enterprises will pay attention and help Vietnamese businesses as they engage in the global supply chain.
