inter airport Europe 2025: Focus Conference Highlights Future of Global Aviation
The 25th edition of inter airport Europe is set to take place at Munich Messe from October 7–9, 2025, and this year’s spotlight will be on the Focus Conference, a free-to-attend program offering three full days of insights. Organised by RX Global, the event will bring together 25 sessions and 45 expert speakers, covering the most pressing topics shaping the aviation industry.
Airport professionals attending will gain a comprehensive view of the latest innovations, strategies, and case studies in areas such as sustainability, digitalisation, passenger experience, workforce management, intermodal connectivity, and future airport development.
Sustainability remains one of the top priorities for the global airport sector. The Focus Conference will showcase how leading airports are pushing forward with net-zero commitments, circular economy models, and operational transformations that reduce environmental impact.
Speakers such as Denise Farese (To70), Tomaso Barilli (Aeroporto di Bologna), and Dr. Paolo Deforza (SACBO) will address real-world approaches to achieving net-zero. Their session, “The Race to Net Zero”, will be held on Tuesday, October 7th, offering a deep dive into how sustainability is being embedded into aviation strategies worldwide.
Rapid advancements in digitalisation, automation, robotics, and AI are reshaping how airports operate. A session titled “Enhanced Baggage Handling Solutions at New and Existing Hub Airports” will explore smarter baggage management technologies.
Speakers Henk Brandsma (Royal Schiphol Group), Adrian Lach (CPK), and Michael Doughty (NACO) will share innovations that are improving efficiency, accuracy, and the passenger journey. This session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8th.
The modern airport ecosystem must be resilient in the face of crises ranging from geopolitical instability to unexpected operational disruptions. On Tuesday, October 7th, Laila Odina, Chairperson of the Board at RIX Riga Airport, will speak on “The Impact of the Geopolitical Situation”, sharing insights into how airports can prepare for and mitigate risks while maintaining continuity.
Cybersecurity and predictive analytics are now central to aviation safety. Sessions under this theme will focus on data protection, cyber convergence, and the power of big data collaborations.
Notable highlights include Tony Chapman (AJC Aviation) and Dr. Joe Perez (CogniMind), who will discuss “Big Data: Collaboration Across the Industry” on Tuesday, October 7th. Attendees will also be able to join debates such as “Security, Safety & Cyber Convergence in Tomorrow’s Airport” and “Data-Denial or Data-Driven? Disaster or Delight?”.
Attracting and retaining talent is a critical challenge for airports worldwide. On Day Three, Mohammad Taher (The Airport Guy Ltd) will join the session “Looking Forward to the Next 25 Years! Attracting & Retaining the Future Workforce”.
Additionally, on Tuesday, October 7th, a panel discussion moderated by Chloe Greenbank (Regional Gateway) will feature Stefan Murphy (Unifi Aviation UK) and other industry leaders to provide an update on the state of aviation employment.
With seamless journeys being increasingly important to passengers, airports are investing in stronger links with rail and road networks. On Wednesday, October 8th, Lutz Wesser, Managing Director at Munich Airport, will present the session “Intermodal Munich – By Train and by Plane”, focusing on best practices in integrated travel solutions.
The Focus Conference will also explore long-term planning and bold visions for the next generation of airports. Doan Nha Truc (Long Thanh International Airport) will present Vietnam’s 2030 Master Plan on Tuesday, October 7th, giving attendees an international perspective on sustainable and passenger-centric infrastructure development.
Accessibility and inclusivity are gaining prominence in airport planning. A dedicated session on Tuesday, October 7th will see Harvey Matthewson (Aerobility) and Rakesh Shahu (Ostrum Tech Limited) discuss strategies to make airports more inclusive. This includes integrating physical adaptations, innovative technologies, and comprehensive staff training to better serve all passengers.
In addition to the Focus Conference, inter airport Europe will feature the Innovation Theatre on the show floor. These sessions highlight new products, interactive demonstrations, and practical solutions that boost airport efficiency.
Highlights include:
“Solving Tomorrow’s Hold Baggage Screening Challenges: Smart. Efficient. Sustainable” by Susanne Kruppa (Smiths Detection Germany GmbH) – Tuesday, October 7th.
“Fueling Without Friction: When Systems Talk, Flights Move” by Robin Weissgerber (Information Design One AG) and Ulf Katzenberger (AFIS GmbH & Co. KG) – Tuesday, October 7th.
