Logistics UK Calls for Restraint Amid Greenland Trade Dispute
Logistics UK has urged political leaders to adopt a calm and measured response to escalating tensions surrounding Greenland, warning that aggressive trade measures could undermine fragile global supply chains. The industry body stressed that the logistics sector, still recovering from the long-term impacts of the pandemic, cannot afford renewed uncertainty triggered by tariff disputes.
Concerns Over a Fragile Post-Pandemic Recovery
According to Logistics UK, early signs of recovery are beginning to emerge across the logistics and transport sector following years of disruption caused by Covid-19, labour shortages, and volatile fuel prices. However, the organisation cautioned that this recovery remains delicate. Any sudden policy shocks—particularly tariffs—risk reversing progress and placing additional strain on already tight margins.
US Tariff Threats Spark Industry Alarm
The warning follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump of a proposed 10% tariff on goods imported from eight countries, including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland. The tariffs are scheduled to come into force on 1 February and could rise to as much as 25% if negotiations fail to reach a resolution. The measures are linked to the United States’ controversial stance regarding Greenland.

Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, has become the focal point of renewed geopolitical tension after President Trump claimed the island is vital to US national security interests.
