The Mi-171A2 are intended to greatly enhance Bangladesh’s aviation security. Two Mi-171A2s have been delivered from Russia, are being tested, and are scheduled to be delivered in the summer of 2025.

The Mi-171A2 helicopter is a highly upgraded version of the Mi-8/17 helicopter family, which was developed in early 2010. Compared to the previous version, the Mi-171A2 has more reliable engines when operating in mountainous, hot, and humid conditions, more modern electronic equipment with liquid crystal displays to assist pilots in handling situations, and a redesigned rotor system that reduces noise while operating more stably.

The Mi-8/17 is now the most popular helicopter line produced by Russia

Currently, Russia’s most popular helicopter is the Mi-8/17. It is currently operational in over 40 nations, and the United States is required to purchase this type of helicopter to equip the Afghan army since it can operate efficiently even at high altitudes (something that US helicopters cannot accomplish).

Russia continues to produce updated variants of this helicopter series, the most recent of which is the Mi-171A2, for traditional Russian helicopter customers.
