Airfare costs for the April 30-May 1 period continue to rise rapidly, with some flights selling out despite the Civil Aviation Authority’s directive to airlines to boost flights to meet people’s travel demands.

Ticket prices continue to increase

One of the routes with the highest ticket prices is Hanoi-Phu Quoc. The round-trip ticket price from Hanoi to Phu Quoc (departing on April 29 and returning on May 3) on Vietnam Airlines is 9.06 million VND, up 2.2 million VND from the ticket price purchased before March 20. The ticket price for Vietjet Air is 7.9 million VND, a 2 million VND increase over the ticket price booked before March 20.

Both airlines charge 3.5 – 5 million VND more than typical for a round-trip ticket. Meanwhile, Pacific Airlines has sold out all seats for the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route.

“Golden” flight route: Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi and vice versa

The round-trip economy class ticket fare on Vietjet Air’s “golden” route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and vice versa is 4.5 million VND. As of 4:00 p.m. on April 6, the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route was unavailable on airlines’ online ticketing systems, including Vietnam Airlines, for the four days from April 27 to April 30 due to sold out tickets.

According to Vietnam Airlines’ online ticket sales website, there are 18 flights from Hanoi to Da Nang one-way on April 29, with average ticket pricing of 2.5 million VND each ticket. However, some desirable time slots in the afternoon and at midday have already sold out. On the afternoon of May 4, the morning slot from 9 to 11 a.m. was also sold out; other time slots cost around 2.5 million VND or more per ticket.

Other carriers include Vietjet and Bamboo Airways

Similarly, Vietjet’s average outward ticket price is 3 million VND, whereas Bamboo Airways only offers two flights; economy class is around 2 million VND, and business class is 3.3 million VND. For the return journey, Vietjet charges 2-2.5 million VND each ticket, but certain flights are sold out, whilst Bamboo Airways charges roughly 2.2-2.4 million VND per ticket.

Ticket costs change

Vietnam Airlines tickets cost around 3-4 million VND on the Hanoi-Nha Trang route, and there are still many seats available; the return trip is also “sold out,” and passengers can take a connecting flight to Da Nang and then continue to Hanoi, with a combined ticket price of around 4.5 million VND. Vietjet Air’s departing ticket costs roughly 2-3 million VND depending on the time frame, while the return ticket costs 2.7-3.6 million VND.

A Vietjet Air representative stated that in the setting of a dynamic market, the airline is working to maintain a steady schedule with a wide choice of flights and optimal pricing to meet people’s travel needs over the April 30 and May 1 vacations.

The airline intends to maximize operating capacity, particularly on peak days like April 30 and May 1. Priority is given to vital routes like as Hanoi to Cam Ranh, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc, Da Lat.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the April 30 – May 1 holiday (from April 25 to May 5, 2025), Vietnamese airlines (HKVN) are expected to operate 7,536 flights (an average of 685 flights/day), representing a 24% and 21% increase, respectively, and providing approximately 1.5 million seats, representing a 20% increase over the previous year and a 22% increase over the same period.

The bulk are flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City, with 5,083 flights (an average of 462 flights per day), representing a 21% and 21% growth, respectively, and supplying 1.03 million seats.

In addition, the Department worked together with Vietnam Airports Corporation and airlines to prepare Passenger Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport for operation during the April 30 – May 1 holiday.
