EASP AIR and Ostend-Bruges Airport Join Forces for a Landmark Development
A Major Step in Airport Renewal
In early August, EASP AIR BV and Ostend-Bruges Airport signed a Letter of Intent to embark on an ambitious development project. At the heart of this initiative is the creation of a modern aviation hub consisting of two spacious hangars, each complemented by a three-story office tower. Centrally located on Apron 2, the facility will replace outdated infrastructure and provide a total surface area exceeding 4,900 square meters.
“This project marks a significant milestone in the ongoing renewal and modernisation of our airport,” stated Nathan De Valck, CEO of Ostend-Bruges Airport. “By investing in key strategic pillars, we aim to ensure sustainable growth while strengthening our position in European aviation.”

A Strategic Move for EASP AIR
For EASP AIR, the investment is more than just infrastructure—it is a cornerstone of the company’s long-term vision. Pieter Voeten, CEO of EASP AIR, emphasised the deliberate nature of their decision: “We chose Ostend because the airport’s ambitions align seamlessly with our growth strategy. Its unique location and strong infrastructure make it the ideal base for our Special Mission Expertise Centre.”
The centre will specialise in aviation operations with direct societal value. Key focus areas will include coast guard missions, aerial firefighting, and disaster response support. Positioned near the North Sea and European borders, Ostend provides a perfect platform for these operations. From here, EASP AIR will continue to serve crucial end-users, including the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX).
Strengthening the Airport’s Strategic Position
The partnership extends beyond bricks and mortar; it signals a shift in the airport’s overall direction. De Valck explained: “We are diversifying our activities by not only supporting passenger and cargo flights but also developing MRO services (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul). This creates valuable employment opportunities in West Flanders and strengthens the innovative, specialised character of our airport.”
Collaboration with educational institutions further enhances the airport’s ecosystem. In particular, synergies with VIVES University of Applied Sciences are being explored to develop technical training programs. These initiatives will contribute to talent development and ensure that the aviation cluster in Ostend remains competitive on a European scale.
Unlocking Growth Opportunities for EASP AIR
EASP AIR is equally optimistic about the broader potential this development brings. “Ostend’s location near the coast and within close reach of national borders allows us to efficiently support operations across Europe and the UK,” Voeten noted. “With access to excellent facilities and strong partnerships, we can strengthen our capabilities in maintenance, logistics, and training. At the same time, the presence of universities and technical schools in the region ensures a steady flow of qualified talent for the future.”
By leveraging both its geographic advantages and its educational network, EASP AIR aims to establish Ostend as a central hub for specialised aviation services across Europe.
Comprehensive Maintenance and Logistics Facilities
The new complex will serve as the operational backbone for EASP AIR’s fleet of DO328 Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The hangars will provide secure parking and state-of-the-art maintenance capabilities, ensuring fleet readiness at all times. Maintenance activities will be carried out in collaboration with JetSupport, a long-standing partner known for its expertise in business jet and regional military training aircraft support. Their services will include work on platforms such as the Pilatus PC-7 and PC-21.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the hangars will also be capable of accommodating larger aircraft. Models such as the Bombardier Global 7500 will be able to undergo scheduled maintenance at the facility. Complementing these features, the site will house bonded warehouses, secure storage spaces, and a dedicated shipments department to streamline logistical operations.
Creating Synergy Through Shared Spaces
In addition to aircraft operations, the new offices will host multiple stakeholders. EASP AIR NL/UK, JetSupport, and existing tenants active at Ostend-Bruges Airport will share office space, promoting collaboration and operational efficiency. This co-location strategy fosters an integrated aviation cluster where expertise, resources, and infrastructure can be shared for mutual benefit.
By clustering specialised aviation services, the airport not only strengthens its competitiveness but also positions itself as a centre of excellence for innovation, training, and operational support in Europe.
Looking Ahead
The agreement between EASP AIR and Ostend-Bruges Airport is more than a real estate development—it is a strategic partnership with far-reaching implications. By combining infrastructure investment, specialised aviation expertise, and strong educational partnerships, both organisations are paving the way for long-term sustainable growth.
For the region of West Flanders, the project represents a unique opportunity to boost employment, attract talent, and position itself as a leader in specialised aviation operations. For EASP AIR, it is a launchpad for expanding its European footprint and delivering mission-critical services with societal relevance.
As construction plans take shape, the project underscores a shared vision: to build not only state-of-the-art facilities but also a resilient and forward-looking aviation ecosystem in Ostend.
