GEODIS, a global leader in transport and logistics, has strengthened its sustainability commitment through a strategic partnership with NAOS Group, a specialist in skincare products. The collaboration introduces an innovative multimodal rail-road transport solution designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions while maintaining high standards of operational performance, security, and reliability.

This initiative reflects both companies’ shared ambition to build a more responsible and future-ready supply chain. By integrating rail freight into existing road transport operations, the two organizations are taking a decisive step toward lowering the environmental impact of logistics activities across France.

Launch of an Innovative Multimodal Rail-Road Solution

Since January 2026, GEODIS has been operating a new multimodal logistics flow for NAOS. The transport process begins in Neuville-en-Ferrain, located in northern France, where goods are collected and transported by truck to the multimodal platform in Dourges. From there, shipments are transferred onto rail for the long-distance journey to Avignon in southern France. The final leg of the journey is completed by truck to NAOS’s logistics warehouse in Port Saint Louis.

This multimodal configuration replaces a system that previously relied entirely on road transport. Representing nearly 300 full truckloads annually, the transition marks a substantial shift in how NAOS manages domestic freight movements. By combining rail and road transport, the solution optimizes efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

Significant Reduction in Carbon Emissions

One of the primary objectives of this partnership is to decarbonize the supply chain. The environmental benefits of the new rail-road system are considerable. A full truck carrying approximately 15 tons of cargo typically generates around one ton of CO₂ when transported solely by road. In contrast, rail transport emits only a fraction of that amount—just a few dozen kilograms for an equivalent shipment when integrated into a combined rail-road scheme.

As a result, NAOS is expected to reduce its annual CO₂ emissions by approximately 400 tons through this new multimodal model. To illustrate the scale of this reduction, the savings are equivalent to the emissions generated by a car traveling around the Earth 46 times. This substantial decrease demonstrates how logistics innovation can directly contribute to corporate climate objectives.

The shift also aligns with broader European and global sustainability goals, reinforcing the importance of rail as a lower-carbon alternative for medium- and long-distance freight transport.

Ensuring Security, Reliability, and Operational Excellence

While sustainability is a key driver, maintaining service quality remains equally critical. GEODIS has implemented several measures to guarantee continuity, reliability, and security throughout the transport process.

Secured containers are used during the entire journey, ensuring that products remain protected from origin to final delivery. In addition, dedicated drivers are assigned for pickup and delivery operations, reinforcing operational control and confidentiality. This approach is particularly important in the cosmetics and skincare sector, where product integrity, traceability, and brand reputation are essential.

By carefully balancing environmental responsibility with operational excellence, the new system ensures that sustainability does not compromise performance.

A Long-Term Strategic Collaboration

The rail-road initiative builds upon a broader strategic partnership between GEODIS and NAOS that began in 2022. Since then, GEODIS has been supporting NAOS in transforming and decarbonizing its overall supply chain for global market distribution.

The collaboration encompasses multiple integrated logistics services, including:

  • Centralized maritime transport for NAOS’s brands such as Bioderma, Institut Esthederm, and Etat Pur

  • International warehouse management

  • Deployment of innovative low-carbon land transport solutions

  • Expertise in customs management and regulatory compliance

According to Marc Vollet, Managing Director of the European Road Network at GEODIS Group, the collaboration marks a major milestone in a long-term partnership built on trust, innovation, and operational excellence. GEODIS aims to support NAOS in reshaping its logistics master plan not only in Europe but also worldwide. Together, the companies are developing responsible and forward-thinking logistics solutions that enhance efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.

Driving Sustainable Growth Through Innovation

For NAOS, sustainability is deeply integrated into its corporate strategy. The partnership with GEODIS reflects a commitment to building a resilient and environmentally responsible supply chain capable of supporting continued business growth.

Stéphanie de La Fournière, Global Transport Manager at NAOS Group, emphasized that the partnership is grounded in trust and close collaboration between teams. She highlighted the importance of listening, reliability, and continuous innovation in optimizing logistics performance and advancing NAOS’s strategic ambitions.

By adopting multimodal transport and investing in long-term logistics transformation, NAOS is positioning itself as a responsible player in the cosmetics industry. The initiative demonstrates how companies can align operational efficiency with environmental stewardship.

Building the Future of Sustainable Logistics

The collaboration between GEODIS and NAOS illustrates how strategic partnerships can accelerate the transition toward low-carbon supply chains. Through the integration of rail transport, secured handling procedures, and comprehensive logistics services, both companies are setting a benchmark for sustainable freight operations.

As regulatory pressures and consumer expectations around sustainability continue to grow, multimodal solutions such as this are likely to become increasingly important. By acting proactively, GEODIS and NAOS are not only reducing emissions today but also laying the foundation for a more resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible logistics ecosystem in the years ahead.
